Charging and Fueling Infrastructure: Round 2 Overview
The Charging & Fueling Infrastructure Program (CFI) is a competitive grant program created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) to strategically deploy publicly accessible electric vehicle charging and alternative fueling infrastructure in the places people live and work. CFI investments make modern and sustainable infrastructure accessible to all users of zero-emission (ZE) and near-zero-emission (NZE) vehicles. CFI is divided into two funding categories of grants: (1) Community Charging and Fueling Grants (Community Program); and (2) Alternative Fuel Corridor (AFC) Grants (Corridor Program).
BIL provides $2.5 billion over five years for this program to strategically deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and other alternative fueling infrastructure projects in urban and rural communities in publicly accessible locations, including downtown areas and local neighborhoods, particularly in underserved and disadvantaged communities.
CFI Round 2 will have up to $800 Million to deploy publicly accessible EV charging and alternative fueling infrastructure in certain locations or along designated AFC that will be accessible to all drivers of EVs, hydrogen vehicles, propane vehicles, and natural gas vehicles.
On behalf of the State of Indiana, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), in partnership with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) and Drive Clean Indiana (DCI), is commencing efforts for a coordinated application to the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program focused on deployment of alternative fuel infrastructure in Indiana.
